Some designers are so busy keeping up with their business that they don’t have time to focus on the direction it’s growing. In fact, many don’t want new projects to come in because they can barely keep up with the ones on their plate now. They don’t know how to say no.
Some are on the verge of burnout. Others check out during the day-to-day running of things because they’re no longer excited by the work. They’re so busy putting out their energy and care for others, that they’re ignoring the inner wisdom that is asking them to take care of themselves. Part of the flow of prosperity—financial, emotional and spiritual—is receiving. When you’re in service to clients, you’re on give overdrive but nature seeks equilibrium. When something is sent out, something must be received, otherwise a vacuum is formed.
When you’re on the hamster wheel, the vacuum is a fast-moving circle of sameness that can only be sustained for so long until something gives. And it probably won’t be you, not anymore, because you’re exhausted.
I know you think you don’t have time to do the things you say you want to do. You’re working hard to make more money to have financial freedom and although a fat bank account looks good, is it broadening your experience? Is it enhancing your ability to sell what designers are supposed to, a life well lived?
Perhaps it’s time to look at your process, to calendar your priorities and get out of busy”ness”. Perhaps it’s time to create a vision, to think more deeply about why you do what you do. Perhaps it’s time to receive some accountability and support. It’s time to receive some accountability and support. Click To Tweet
