Massage: It Does a Body Good

Taking time out to treat your body to a massage should be an essential part of your monthly routine.  Not only is a massage super relaxing, studies show it can alleviate pain, reduce stiffness, control blood pressure, manage depression and anxiety, boost your immunity and be an alternative cancer treatment.  In a recent study published by The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, “Preliminary data suggest that a single session of Swedish Massage Therapy produces measurable biologic effects. If replicated, these findings may have implications for managing inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.”
So we know it’s good for us, but isn’t it really expensive?  Well, getting a massage can be an expensive treat if you go to a hotel or resort spa.  Pricing can be anywhere from $90-$250+ for a 1 hour massage.  Ouch!  So if you’re on more of a modest budget, look for deals like I found this morning on livingsocial.com.  A local spa was offering a 90-minute hot stone massage for $45!  That’s right ladies, $45!  This was such an amazing deal it sold out within 2 hours-Bummer!

Where ever you live, here are a few savvy ways to find the best deals on massages for $50 or less:

SIGN UP for as many group event websites you can such as:  groupon, livingsocial, kgbdeals, giltcity.  I receive at least one email a day with a fab deal on massages, facials or other spa treats.   Most are $50 or less (in the LA area.)

CHECK OUT spafinder.com, spavelous.com and spaphile.com.  These are great spa dedicated websites that post and offer deals on specific services.

YELP can be a great source of info for finding a reputable place on the cheap.  Type in “Best inexpensive massage” for your city to find a place that will be worth it.

GO TO THE MALL!  Almost every mall in America now has chair massage therapists offering their services right there!  They usually run about $1-$1.50 a minute.
