The Seven Year Itch Is All About Chemicals

Jane Scandurra is the co-writer, co-producer and co-director of Single, an independent feature documentary that New York film critic Tiffanie Greene describes as “brilliantly done”.

How do you describe your work? “I love the freedom and flexibility of working independently and focusing on things I can be personally passionate about. So I always try to seek out projects that are creative and challenging that leverage my personal strengths and allow me to engage with smart, talented people.”

What three adjectives best describe you? “Passionate (about life in general), thoughtful, always grateful – even for the little things in life.”

Cats, dogs, birds … describe your pets? “None at the moment.”

Favorite season? “Summer. We had a summer home on the beach in Southampton, LI for nearly 20 years, so I learned how to be a true beach bum at an early age. I own a 23 foot motor boat named “Scandalous” (just a clever play on my last name, but it definitely gets a lot of attention) and love being anywhere near the water.”

Name a city you’d love to visit. Why? ” Sicily. That’s where my family is originally from. And I love the Italian culture.”

What’s the best thing about being single? “To answer that honestly, I have to quote someone we interviewed in the documentary I co-produced. He said, “The best thing about being single is knowing you’re not married to the wrong person.” That comment always gets laughs and applause at screenings – from single and married folks alike. It’s a brilliant statement that I agree with wholeheartedly. Just wish I’d said it first.”

Describe your ideal “Girls’ Night Out.” “Going to a fabulous restaurant or just sitting around talking all night. It really doesn’t matter what you do, it’s who you’re with that matters.”

What’s the nicest thing a friend (or friends) have done for you? “Too many things to pick just one. I have the most wonderful friends and family that anyone could ever wish for”

What do you do for “Jane time”?

“I like to play in the kitchen, trying out new recipes or making old favorites (which, I admit, usually involves pasta). I’m a real foodie.”

What’s the best advice you ever received? “Live by the “Golden Rule” – treat others the way you want them to treat you (especially if you believe in Karma!)”

What quality do you admire most in a man? “Respect – for self and others.”

What quality do you admire most in a woman? “Respect – for self and others.”

Who are your real life heroes? “My parents. True role models in every way”

What is your guilty pleasure? “Pasta. I’m definitely a carboholic. That, and watching Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe. I admit, he’s my ultimate dream guy. Super smart, handsome, quick-witted, and oh so sexy. He could be completely covered in raw sewage (as he often is on the show), and he’s still hot. His dry sense of humor makes me laugh out loud.”

What is your biggest fear? “Living to a ripe old age in poor health.”

If you could change one thing in your past, what would it be? “Nothing, really. I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. So whatever’s happened so far, good or bad, has made me who I am and gotten me to the where I am today. And it’s all good. Sounds like a corny copout, but it’s true.”

Other than your own talents, what talent would you most like to have? “Play a musical instrument. I took piano lessons as a kid and enjoyed it, but I quit after a year because I felt I was missing out on play time with friends. My mom always said I’d regret it when I got older As usual, she was right.”

What is your motto? Or what words do you live by? “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference” Or..said another way, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”
