#LESSONUP FOR CHANGE
(4:40) No one has the exact same lesson plan. We all come in with gifts to develop, and we all come in with pain to experience and to turn into gifts.
(5:35) Pain is unavoidable, it’s part of being human, but it’s how fast we recover from the pain to turn it into something that’s useful and maybe even contributing to somebody else’s life.
(6:24) Resilience is the willingness to get help until you know that you have healed enough to help other people. So don’t give up. For me, if I’m in a lot of pain and I’ve gone to one therapist and they don’t work, I don’t stop there. It is our birthright to be free of this trauma. It’s our birthright. We didn’t create it. It was done to us, but we can create the outcome.
(9:58) Social media has given us an extraordinary outlet for a lot of thoughts and opinions, but it’s mostly self-serving. We talk to one another. Social movement the keyword is movement. We actually need to galvanize organize, catalyze each other and our problematic allies into the streets show up visibly and say no more. But movement is the key. And I move every day I dance. I move. If you’re in movement, you’re pretty darn happy. It’s when we’re paralyzed in fear, it’s when we’ve believed the lies that we are not in control of our bodies, that we get depressed.
(12:48) We know that to evolve, we have to become a partnership society in which we take accountability for our mistakes instead of justifying them in the name of some kind of elite supreme vision. We need to be partners. Now I gotta tell you, I believe that this assault is an invitation that we’ve been waiting to have to realize 25 million people in this country can walk out and call on each other to say, this is our body, our country, our time. Now we can’t debate it on a stage because that talky talk talk is not going to move the process.
(14:40) Organize, catalyze, make a movement. Stop tapping on the social media. It’s we the people not we the hashtags, not, we the handles. We’ve got to actually be embodied in this movement of joyful taking back what’s rightfully ours.
(17:24) We’re not safe alone. We’re only safe in numbers. We all have to stand up and be counted and you have to be really that person that will be counted as well. So if they come for you, Kim, I’ve gotta stand for you. This is not optional. Support is not silent. Solidarity is not silent.
(20:58) We don’t have the time to be unclear about what this bond of unity means.
(21:28) I believe that if everybody lived a fully expressed life, we would have a fully humane world.
(22:56) The biggest mistake people make is they identify with their problems, not their possibilities. We all suffer. We all have horrible things happen to us some more than others. The best revenge against all oppressive systems is to live a fully expressed joyful life. And that joy is our birthright and that when I’m in full self-expression, I’m naturally generous when I’m cut off or censored or living a truncated part of myself, I’m more self-referencing and more self-obsessed. So when I’m in full bloom, I’m giving, I’m loving. That is who I am. And that’s why the book is now because right now we’ve all got to live our fully expressed lives in order for our own happiness. But so that we’re overflowing and can give more joy to others.
