Get Exactly What You Want

If you know me, you also know that I’m HUGE fan of The Voice.  The former underdog in the reality, singing competition show category is putting the squeeze on American Idol after only two seasons.
Celebrity musicians and coaches Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton choose teams of singers during a blind audition — vocalists can be heard not seen. Then each of the chosen ones compete, first against their team members, and eventually other teams, eliminating all except for one vocalist dubbed “The Voice” who wins the requisite album deal.

I watch episodes on-the-fly on Hulu, screaming, crying and rooting for my favorites like they can here me. It’s embarrassing. I don’t recall being this much of a “fan” since I was 15.

Living in LA, I’ve had several opportunities to see shows taped live but the years I spent running around as a producer on live-to-tape design shows and morning news kills the appeal…until recently. I can’t remember the exact episode I was watching when I thought to myself, “I have to see this show live.”

I must.

Cut to a couple of days later when I find myself chit chatting with my neighbor – a production designer for film and television – about our dogs, our broken washing machine and what she’s working on these days. You know what’s coming right?

The Voice,” she said innocently.

THE VOICE!” I screamed and the rest as they say, is history.

Not only did I get to watch a taping this Monday from the floor stage left, I got a personal backstage tour, insight on how the stage was built, a walk through the Sprint VIP lounge and the dressing rooms where I smiled at several of the contestants (I was speechless — rare).  I also got to sit in Adam Levine’s chair! (Sadly, Adam wasn’t in it at the time.)

Can I get a “woo-woo”?

The point is that I planted the seed with my desire and I decided it was going to happen. I stayed out of the business of “how” and “when”. I just knew it would and it did.  When I’ve got the right mindset, I’ve been known to create almost magical opportunities.  When I don’t, hell is sure to follow.

Why?

When you make a decision, whether good or bad, opportunities show up to meet you.  So you can see how getting invested in what you want, instead of what you don’t, is definitely the way to go.  But first you have to know what your vision is which means, you have to know exactly what you want.  Do you?  Do your financial, business and lifestyle goals reflect it?  Are you showing up like you want to or are you telling the story of who you used to be?  Are you prepared to be seen for who you are now?

[Tweet “When you make a decision, whether good or bad, opportunities show up to meet you.”]

Don’t worry, it’s not difficult at all.  In fact, it’s a whole lot of fun.  Getting EXACTLY what you want is closer and easier, when you think.  It might even be right next door.

P.S. Go Jamar!
